Carpinteria Salt Marsh Basin I & South Marsh Restoration Project

Scope of Project: Restoration of native wetland and upland habitats to Basin I and South Marsh sections of the Carpinteria Salt Marsh which are owned by the Land Trust of Santa Barbara.
Overall project includes:

  • Improving tidal circulation and restoring historic tidal channels
  • Removing and controlling invasive non-native plants and planting native vegetation
  • Construction of trails and viewing areas by installing a foot bridge from the Nature Park to Basin I
Number of Plants: 7000 plants
Variety of Plants: 7 species of California native trees and wetland plants
Size of Area: 36 acres
Material Collected: Majority of material collected at the Carpinteria Salt Marsh.
Some material collected between Carpinteria Salt Marsh and Coal Oil Point.


City of Santa Barbara, Arroyo Burro Estuary Restoration Project

Scope of Project: Restoration of native wetland and upland habitats for Arroyo Burro Estuary owned by the City of Santa Barbara
Overall project includes:
  • Daylighting a 72 foot section of Mesa creek to restore historic tidal area
  • Removing and controlling invasive non-native plants and planting native vegetation
  • Construction of trails and viewing areas leading into the Wilcox property
Number of Plants: 7,700 trees, shrubs and grasses
Variety of Plants: 41 native species
Size of Area: 4 acres
Material Collected: Majority of material collected either at Arroyo Burro or adjacent watersheds.

Arroyo Hondo Preserve Revegetation Project

Scope of Project: On going revegetation project since February 2002 to restore the native habitat of the 782 acre “Jewel of the Gaviota Coast” - Arroyo Hondo Preserve. Since October 2003, Santa Barbara Natives has propagated and grown native plants collected in the Arroyo Hondo canyon and nearby watersheds.

Number of Plants: 4,500 trees, shrubs and grasses
Variety of Plants: 45 native species
Size of Area: Multiple areas within the 782 acre preserve
Material Collected: All material collected within the preserve or adjacent watersheds
Time Frame: 2003 to 2008


Montecito Estate – Restoration Project

Scope of Project: Restoration of 3 acres of native riparian and chaparral habitats within a 50-acre Montecito estate
Number of Plants: 2,900 trees, shrubs and grasses
Variety of Plants: 20 native species
Size of Area: 2 acres
Material Collected: All material collected from watersheds between Mission Canyon and Gaviota
